Stage 5: Super Miga climbs to 5th overall win!

Myagmarsuren Basaankhuu has won the Granfondo Yunnan for the 5th time in a row. In the final stage the sympathetic Mongolian dotted the ‘i’ with a powerful stage victory on the high-altitude backside of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain at Maoniuping. Miga reeled in brave escapee Josh Bauer before halfway up the 28km long ascent and eventually had no choice but to leave the American behind.

Stage 4: Strong Vitmanovskii wins elite sprint!

Russia’s powerhouse rider Evgenii Vitmanovskii has just been missing that little bit extra to be able to follow Miga and the other pure climbers uphill, but in Dali he proved just how good he is this week. Vitmanovskii was the man to beat in the Lake Ride, and nevertheless he took the bull by the horns. He was on cue after km 23, when the course for the first time took a right-hander up a new 2,5km long moderate climb, and set up the final breakaway around the km 55 mark. Six guys joined him: Elijus Civilis from Lithuania, Wei Kui from Shanghai, Chaleampon Klahan from Thailand, Li Jun Gang from Kunming, Josh Bauer from Minnesota USA and Erkes Davaasambu from Mongolia. Correct: no Miga. A flat stage can cause surprises!

Stage 3: Miga and Bilguu rule along Gaoligong

The longest and toughest stage of this year’s edition of Granfondo Yunnan was once again ‘Along Gaoligong’ in Tengchong, a 200 km long technical course with 3000m of elevation gain. Our race leaders Miga and Anne Stegehuis were both keen on dotting the i today and so they did. Miga won out of a three-man breakaway that he he himself set up as early as 72km into the race, while Stegehuis was just too strong for her fellow competitors.

Stage 2: Bilguu outsprints Miga in Yingjiang

The brand new stage of this year’s Granfondo Yunnan in Yingjiang, Dehong featured the incredible ascent of the Col du Daonong, an irregular climb with a very steep middle section, but the result remains more or less the same. Myagmarsuren Basaankhuu and Anne Stegehuis are dominating this year’s edition and proved that again in the 118 km long stage 2. Fellow-Mongolian Erdenebat Bilguunjargal coloured the stage and was basically allowed to take the victory in a sprint against yellow jersey Miga.

Miga outfoxed his three break-away companions Erdenebat Bilguunjargal, Wu Yunfei and Josh Bauer in the final 2 km. Stegehuis was the only woman who managed to attach herself to a big group of fast male riders . She took 9 minutes today on her rivals for the GC, such as Chelsie Tan, Chi Zhaoyuan and Marg Fedyna.

Check the cut-off times for each stage!

Granfondo is mainly about the individual challenge to finish the long distance race courses within the given timeframe. However, as we are on public roads most of the time and these roads in China are typically closed for traffic so you can enjoy your ride in all safety, we must impose a minimum speed requirement that translates into a set of “cut-off times” at aid stations.
